Dr. Lara is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in psychopharmacology. He specializes in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, and ADHD.
Dr. Lara received his bachelor’s in English Literature with a minor in Biological Sciences from Stanford University. He then went on to Harvard University, where he completed a Master’s in English and American Literature and Language. As he began his dissertation towards a PhD, he found himself intrigued by the connection between medicine and literature, and his full pursuit of medicine began in earnest.
He completed an internship and residency in adult psychiatry at the Department of Behavioral Sciences at Stanford Hospital and clinics.
He has held leadership positions at the Centro de Bienestar, a community-based mental health clinic in San Jose. He first served as the Chief Psychiatrist and then became Medical Director, where he developed and managed a staff of five psychiatrists, and developed in-house training programs on psychopharmacology for social workers, psychologists, and community physicians.
Most recently, he has worked in private practice at Belmont, California, where he specializes in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, and ADHD.
Dr. Lara has held faculty positions at the Institute for Brain Potential in Los Altos and at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (now Sophia University) in Palo Alto.
